Settlers sweep the first day of Coldwater Showcase

The Smiths Falls Settlers hit the road at 3 am Nov. 14th for the Coldwater, Ontario Showcase after winning their regular season game against the Mustangs with 4 -2 final. The first game of the showcase was against the second place team of the West Division (Bracebridge Pioneers). The Settlers opened the scoring at 07:38 of the first with Ollie Berndtsson assisted by Maverick Baxtrom. The Settlers maintained the 1 – 0 lead through the second period until 11:26 of the 3rd period when Felix Stephen was able to net one, increasing the Settlers lead to 2 – 0. Felix Stephen was not done there, he increased the lead to 3 – 0 at 05:54 mark of the 3rd. However being down 3 – 0 the Pioneers never gave up and was able to find the back of the net at 04:28 bringing the game to a 3 -1 final.

At 02:30 PM the Settlers faced their second opponent that being the 1st place team in the West (Essa Stallions). The Settlers still riding the high from the first game, opened scoring in the 1st with goals from Jarius Moar and Jovani Moses at 06:47 and 00:54 respectively. The Settlers did not stop there, they scored again in the second at the 00:14, increasing the lead to 3 – 0 by Felix Stephen. But like the first game, the Settlers and Felix were not done there with Felix Stephen scoring again at 08:23 in the 3rd. The Settlers finished the first day of the showcase with 2 – 0 record placing them in good standing going into the second day of the showcase.
